Said
the Acting Director-General of the General
Directorate of Traffic Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin
Sabah Al Khalifa that General Directorate of
Traffic succeed through the plan it placed last
year, to reduce the fatal accidents to 75 during
the year 2008, compared to 83 in the year 2007.
Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman bin Sabah Al-Khalifa said
that the General Directorate of Traffic had been
able to reduce the proportion number of deaths
to 84, compared with 91 during 2007, as well as
the number of injured in traffic accidents
during 2008 were 3415 compared with 3506 injured
during 2007, stressing that the General
Directorate of Traffic had focused in its plans
to intensify the traffic campaigns to enforce
the law and increase awareness campaigns, where
the General Directorate of Traffic was able to
control 511,005 violation during 2008 was

campaigns have result in a clear reduction in
the incidence of deaths and injuries
significantly over the past year despite the
presence of many claiming to reduce those
campaigns, where the General Directorate of
Traffic has sought to implement them in order to
protect the road users and that it had a
prominent role in reducing the incidence of
deaths and injuries during 2008.
The Acting Director-General of the General
Directorate of Traffic that the Directorate had
focused its efforts to control irregularities
that caused the occurrence of serious accidents,
which are the direct causes, such as speed and
overcome the traffic light, in the knowledge
that the General Directorate of Traffic is
facing a steady increase in the number of cars
as it reached 401,595 vehicles during 2008,
compared with 369,124 vehicles during 2007 are
estimated at a relative increase of 8.8%, in
addition to the huge number of cars crossing the
King Fahad Causeway, which amounted to 3414943
vehicles during 2008, compared to 380,636
vehicles in 2007.
On the other hand, Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman bin
Subah pointed out that the number of licenses
granted during 2008 had reached 536,947 compared
to 50933 granted license in 2007, while the
total number of applicants for the driving test
in 2008 were 44,138 trainees where in 2007
trainees were 40,756.
During the year 2008 the General Directorate of
Traffic was concern about the traffic awareness,
through the constant effort to create a new
generation aware of traffic rules, as the
Training and Public Relation Affairs Directorate
Lecture 1115 Lectures and implementing of
several traffic awareness campaigns, which was
accompanied through all the popular forums and
events.
Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman bin Sabah Al- Khalifa
assure that the General Directorate of Traffic
is proud of those successes, which came upon the
continued guidance of his Excellency the
Minister Ministry of Interior Lieutenant-General
Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and the
permanent follow-up by his Excellency the
Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Interior,
Shaikh Khalifa bin Hassan Al Khalifa, where it
supplies the Traffic Directorate with modern
technology of controlling all the irregularities
that leads to reduce the proportion of traffic
accidents in general.
In a related context stressed the Acting
Director-General of the General Directorate of
Traffic that it will continue to implement
traffic intensive campaigns to emphasize the
need to adhere to traffic regulations and not to
violate the order and to keep the safety of
lives and property from any threats, saying that
the General Directorate of Traffic had prepared
a strategy to be implemented by traffic during
the current year 2009, the primary and last goal
is to reduce the incidents of deaths and
injuries through the intensification of
awareness campaigns, wishing all traffic safety.
