An Integrated Traffic Plan for the Formula 1 Races                                   22/4/2009

  The Acting General Director of the General Directorate of Traffic Lt. Col. Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Sabah Al-Khalifa that according to His Excellency Lt. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Minister of Ministry of Interior directions the General Directorate of Traffic had an integrated traffic plan on the occasion of the Formula 1 Races held on the 24-25-26 April.

   He pointed out that a team has been formatted composed of 16 officers and 195 non-commissioned officers to cover this event during the 3 days, equipped with all appliances, equipment, cranes, machinery and motorcycles, in addition to preparing a Traffic Office to follow the accidents, as well as another team has been formatted to work on the King Fahd bridge to facilitate the procedures for the cars and buses entry coming to watch the event.

  He pointed out that the work in the General Directorate of Traffic duration the race period will be as usual to follow up any incidents from the offices, stopping the irregularities and the daily traffic patrols, especially that the last day of the race will be on Sunday where both sectors government and private institutions will work normally, Traffic Directorate is ready to face the any emergency may happen, especially in the traffic peak period, stressing that the streets leading to the race track will be closed in the last day, the closed streets will include Zallaq Highway, northern Awali roundabout up to the race track, and Shaihk Khalifa bin Salman highway - the traffic light intersection of roundabout 6 up to the intersection of Zallaq Street.

   The Acting General Director confirmed that an alternative streets will be to find for the citizens and residents in Hamad Town and Zallaq, by using the following streets: Crown Prince highwat from Riffa roundabout to Hamad Town - Zaid bin Omaira Highway to Zallaq and Road 36 through roundabout 13 in Hamad Town to Zaid bin Omaira Highway to Zllaq and the western region, also vehicles that want to enter the race track during the closure period can use Zaid bin Omaira Highway, passing through Zallaq until Al Areen roundabout.

   On the other hand, Major Moussa Isa Dosari Director of the Training and Public Relation Affairs Directorate assures that there will be a temporary traffic control room next to the Bahrain International Circuit that will be provided with monitoring screens to watch streets leading to the circuit during the Formula1 races, also all media will be explicated to guide the drivers and road users through the traffic alternative, wishing the traffic safety to all road users and asking to cooperate with the traffic police to success this major event.
