the Acting Director-General of the General
Directorate of Traffic Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin
Sabah al- Khalifa, that the General Directorate
of Traffic is still executing the traffic
campaigns on the various streets and roads to
ensure the necessity to adhere to traffic rules
and regulations.
Lt. Col. Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Sabah al-
Khalifa said that the General Directorate of
Traffic has seized during last January 23,712
traffic violation, including 2468 violation of
exceeding the speed limit, 989 violation of
overcome the red traffic light, 982 violation of
using mobile phone by hand while driving, 450
violation of driving in adverse direction, 1708
the non-use of safety belt and 242 violation of
error in excess, as Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin
Sabah al-Khalifa confirmed that the General
Directorate of Traffic was able to reduce the
rate of fatal accidents that happened during
January 2009 to 5 accidents, compared to 7 fatal
accidents happened in January 2008.
He explained that the General Directorate of
Traffic continued to implement its Strategy,
which aims to reduce the rate of fatal accidents
and injuries through focusing on controlling the
irregularities causing the serious accidents,
which speed, overrun the red traffic light and
some misconceptions are considered the main
reasons.
The Acting Director-General of the General
Directorate of Traffic pointed that the General
Directorate of Traffic intensification its
campaigns on all the streets and roads as well
as the dangerous intersections, in addition to
the fast patrols specialized of control and
watching the highways through the camera fitted
to reduce the traffic irregularities which may
cause traffic accidents, stressing that the
General Directorate of Traffic continues to
carry out statistical analysis of the traffic
situation of all the streets of the Kingdom and
analysis the causes of the traffic accidents and
to find solutions to traffic engineering or in
coordination with the Department of Planning and
the Road Designing in the Ministry of Works to
reduce such incidents and to ensure
non-recurrence.
On the other hand, Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman Bin
Sabah said that the General Directorate of
Traffic has not and will not tolerate with
anyone who break the laws and regulations,
causing damage to lives and properties, asking
all the road users to cooperate with the General
Directorate of Traffic to reduce traffic
accident rates and wishing all road users
traffic safety.
